WESTLIFE star Nicky Byrne and his family were evacuated while on vacation in Portugal due to wildfires.

Popular holiday hotspots in the Algarve region have been scorched by soaring temperatures and drought as well as raging forest fires.

A fire broke out on Friday near the exclusive area of ​​Quinta do Lago where Nicky, his wife Georgina Ahern and their three children – Jay, Rocco and Gia stayed with her stepfather and former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.

A spokesperson confirmed to the Irish Sun that Nicky had been evacuated as the area grappled with wildfires.

They said: “He is in Portugal with his family and has been evacuated from the house for some time.”

The Mail on Sunday reported: “The singer was on a family holiday with wife Georgina, sister-in-law Cecelia and father-in-law Bertie Ahern.

“A source spotted Nicky having a few drinks with former Taoiseach Bertie at a local bar.

“But their pints and conversion were cut short as the pub was evacuated due to the worsening fires.”

The resort – which is hugely popular with celebrities – is owned by Irish billionaire Dennis O’Brien and a spokesman has confirmed that they have to evacuate guests.

They said in a statement: “Some of the most critical areas close to the fire have been evacuated, as a precaution.

“We have also decided to close our golf courses, sports facilities and retail outlets to ensure the well-being of our residents and guests.

“We would also like to call on the whole community to remain calm, to keep informed as the local authorities are working hard on the ground. Protect yourself.”

The region fought no less than 30 fires on Friday with temperatures reaching over 40 degrees.

However, the station has since reopened its facilities and reported that no one was injured as a result of the incident.

They said in an updated statement: “Our golf courses, campus, restaurants and other facilities have already reopened.

‘SAD DAY’

“Q Hub is also open; please do not hesitate to contact us or visit us at roundabout 2 if you need assistance.

“Yesterday was a long, sad and difficult day for all of us at Quinta, but authorities have reported that the situation is now under control.

“We still have firefighters on site to control and monitor the area.

“The well-being and safety of our community has been maintained and thankfully there have been no reported human casualties or injuries.

“The fire affected some landscaping in the North Course and some private villas near the fire.
