Mark’s relationship with Cailean O’Neill
Mark and Cailean met around 2013, with Mark confirming he had a boyfriend four years later in 2017.
The singer exclusively told RSVP Live at the time: “I’m dating an Irishman now so it’s good for both of us to be back in Ireland and our families are close.
“We’ve been together for four years now, so it’s been quite a while and I’m very happy.”
The couple first went public at the annual National Television Awards in London in January 2019.
The guys joined Mark’s teammates Nicky Byrne, Shane Filan and Kian Egan, and their wives Georgina Ahern, Gillian Filan and Jodi Albert for the classy event.
Mark and Cailean got engaged just a month after sharing their first photo together on social media.
The beautiful Sligo star shared the happy news on her Instagram page after getting down on her knees while on holiday in the Maldives.
He said: “2019 has been so amazing for me so far and it’s only just begun! I wanted to be the first to say it… #engaged”.
In May 2019, Mark announced that he and Cailean were expecting a baby together. They had taken a few years to explore their options before deciding on surrogacy.
At the age of 39, Mark revealed: “Thank you for all the birthday wishes everyone.
“It truly makes it my most special birthday EVER to let everyone know that later this year we will be becoming dads for the first time.”
Mark surprised fans at the Westlife gig in Croke Park in July 2019 by announcing the baby’s gender.
He announced that they had a girl at GAA headquarters, telling fans, “It’s an exclusive.”
Speaking about becoming a father for the first time, Mark said: “I’m [feeling] all kinds of emotions.
“Fortunately the [Westlife] the guys have three kids each and one of my best friends has three kids… my brother has a kid, my godson, so it’s not the first kid I’ve been around,” he told Dermot Whelan and Dave Moore on Today FM.
Arrival of baby Layla
Baby Layla was born in October 2019.
Taking to Instagram, Mark shared his first family photo as the trio left hospital.
He said: “Baby Layla was born safe and sound at 7.27pm on October 1, 2019! We are the happiest dads in the world! x”
Mark and Cailean are already talking about becoming parents again as they plan to have a second baby.
He said: “I love the idea of her having a little playmate who is about her height and age.
“She has plenty of cousins in Dublin, Sligo and the surrounding area – and in Westmeath, I can’t forget my cousins there.”
Speaking to Jennifer Zamparelli on RTÉ 2fm, he added: “I love the idea but it’s not in the immediate future.”

Mark wants his daughter Layla to grow up in a more equal world and says she and other children born through surrogacy must be recognized by the state.
“It’s Layla’s equal rights, that’s what I’m interested in and children who are born through surrogacy, right now when they come back to Ireland [they] must be incorporated into laws that were written for a different group of people.
“I think it’s really important that Ireland [acts] quite quickly, given the number of people who have children through surrogacy, whether they are same-sex parents or not, the fact is that the children are there, they were born and they deserve to be recognized,” he told Amy Huberman on her Mamia and Me podcast.
Mark added that “it’s not an emergency because the children are loved and in loving families and all, but they deserve to be taken care of legally and it’s not there at all and it just needs to be speeded up. because these children are here now.”
Mark and Cailean got engaged in 2019 but have yet to confirm their wedding plans. However, he said music would play an important role in the day.
“I wrote Beyoncé for the church,” he joked.
Mark continued: “To be honest with you, Aretha Franklin or Whitney Houston, but that’s not going to happen.”
Engagement and breakup with Kevin McDaid
Mark came out publicly during an interview in August 2005. He also revealed at the time that he was dating British fashion photographer Kevin McDaid, a member of the now defunct British boy band V.
The couple got engaged in February 2010 but separated after seven years the following year.
On December 31, 2011, Mark announced the news of their split on Twitter.
He said in a statement: “Unfortunately, Kevin and I are no longer together.
“We won’t be answering any questions about this as it’s a very private matter. Thanks in advance for understanding this. Lots of love, Mx.”
