Rehearsals have begun for the new musical featuring the tunes of Take That.
Title The best days, the film is directed by Coky Giedroyc (How to build a girl) with a screenplay written by Tim Firth and choreography by award-winning Drew McOnie (Jesus Christ Superstar).
McOnie took to Twitter to tease rehearsals, saying, “Up and over to them!! FINALLY it’s day one of rehearsals for the The best days. I can’t wait to perform with a full boy band to the brilliant music of Take That with superstar associate Ebony Mollina.”
Molina has worked with McOnie on a variety of projects, including The Wild Party at the Other Palace, jekyll and hyde at the Old Vic and, more recently, Carousel at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
The film is loosely based on the staging The group, which follows a group of school friends who reunite later in life and reminisce about the group of five boys that brought them all together.
Ruth Wilson, Cush Jumbo and Rosamund Pike have all reportedly been in negotiations to star in the film, although no confirmed casting has yet been announced.
McOnie then opened up on the day one success, teasing, “Ooooof can happily say that the boys from the Greatest Days movie don’t mess around! So inspiring. Can’t wait to talk about who they are so I can post videos of the time spent in the studio!”
No release date for The best days has yet been announced, which is set to feature some of Take That’s most iconic hits.
We expect full-throttle casting news soon.
The group opened in Manchester in 2017 before running to the West End at Theater Royal Haymarket the following year. It received strong reviews during its West End run, being described as “a poignant watch – about aging and loss”.
