NBC4’s Jerod Smalley plays softball with the Backstreet Boys

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Backstreet’s back, with a ball and a bat.

Specifically, the immensely popular ’90s boy band made their final appearance in the WNCI 97.9 Charity Softball Classic on Wednesday night at Huntington Park. NBC4 anchor and athletic director Jerod Smalley was able to join in the fun alongside the Columbus Blue Jackets, Ohio State Buckeyes and other celebrities.

Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, Brian Littrell and AJ McLean all joined Smalley in the diamond. Littrell even took a moment to share some celebrity coaching.

“You know you have to stay calm, stay relaxed, because there’s a lot going on,” Littrell said. “So you have to settle it, you have to settle it like this, let it roll.”

Proceeds from the softball game tickets were donated to On Our Sleeves, the children’s mental health movement at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
