Backstreet Boys alum AJ McLean compares Britney Spears to Princess Diana

Backstreet Boys alum AJ McLean has weighed in on Britney Spears’ guardianship and what it was like for him as a young pop star.

The singer, 43, recalled meeting the “Toxic” singer on his “Pretty Messed Up” podcast.

“When I met Britney, Britney was living in the same apartment complex as me when she was filming ‘The Mickey Mouse Club,'” McLean recalled.

“She was the nicest, nicest girl,” he said. “I can speak for myself: I was 14 when the Backstreet Boys started. As a young boy or girl immersed in this business, it makes your head spin. I would compare the level of madness with Britney to what happened to Princess Diana. It’s sad to see what’s happened in the last 13 years.”

Spears, 39, was taken into custody in 2008.

“I personally don’t agree with that. I don’t agree with guardianship lasting as long as it has. I only know one side. I don’t know what’s going through parents’ heads. In my opinion, I think it should have ended a while ago or at least faded a bit. It doesn’t seem right. I hope the resolution is that this poor girl gets her life back. Just so you can go to the grocery store on your own. Be able to go get a medical checkup if you feel sick,” McLean continued.

He concluded, “Ultimately the truth will come out. I’m 100 million percent on the #FreeBritney train because I’m all for it. We should all be praying for Britney and also praying for her. family, because, again, I can’t even imagine as a parent what’s going on in his mother’s and father’s head. I want to say a prayer for each of them.

On June 23, Spears went to court for the first time and spoke out against his guardianship, which lasted 13 years.

Spears made some startling statements during her remarks to the judge, including calling the conservatorship ‘abusive’ and said it left her ‘traumatized’ and ‘depressed’.

During her speech, Spears alleged that her father, Jamie Spears, “loved” the control he had over her as a conservative.

“I want changes and I want changes in the future,” she said.

The star went on to note that she didn’t want to be assessed to determine if she had regained her mental capacity.

“I just want my life back,” she said. “All I want is to own my money and have my boyfriend drive me around in his car. I want to sue my family.”

“I’m not happy,” she said. “I can’t sleep. I’m so mad, it’s crazy. And I’m depressed. My dad and everyone involved in this guardianship, including my management…they should be in jail.”
