If you’re a Backstreet Boys fan and Schitt’s Creeklisten up: AJ McLean and Annie Murphy met after one of the boy band’s concerts in Toronto and paid tribute to the sitcom (and no, they didn’t sing “A Little Bit Alexis” together).
On Sunday July 3, AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys shared a video of himself and his “new friend” Annie Murphy performing one of the most iconic lines of Schitt’s Creek which has pretty much become entrenched in Canadian slang.
“Oh my god I made a new friend @annefrances in Toronto! Such a genuine and generous soul, not to mention hilarious and talented. Hands down one of the best shows ever. #schittscreek thanks for being great !” reads the tweet.
In the short clip, Murphy channels her character, Alexis Rose, as AJ stands next to her and spreads her wrists. Within seconds, Murphy says the show’s signature “Ew, David” line but instead, with a twist: “Ew, AJ.”
“I love it,” AJ said between laughs and applause, as Murphy breaks out of character and laughs along with him.
The newfound love between the two celebs is apparently mutual as Murphy also shared his excitement about meeting the Backstreet Boys singer on Instagram.
“Like, what other fucking face did I expect to make after 25 exciting years of being the unofficial Mrs. McLean-Littrell-Carter-Richardson-Dorough?” the Instagram caption reads, as Murphy pokes fun at how her eyes were half-open in the photo they took together. Anyone who had a crush on one of the Backstreet Boys growing up can probably relate.
The Backstreet Boys just played back-to-back performances at the Budweiser Stage in Toronto over the long weekend and Murphy wasn’t the only celebrity in attendance.
Toronto’s Drake took the stage Saturday night to sing the 1999 classic “I Want It That Way.” Can we expect the six to work together on something soon?
